span style="font-family:arial;">I was teaching 3rd-graders that there are other search functions in Google other than a straight text search and proceeded to teach them the "Image" search function. After explaining some basic rules concerning copyright laws, the students became fascinated with this.
I was helping one student look up images of black women and she typed in "black momma" (instead of "black mother") and in the first row of pictures was a nude woman in a graphic sexual embrace with a man. I uttered an astonished cry and covered the monitor screen with my hand -- horrified that the image had gotten past our network filter. The little 3rd-grader looked up at me with a puzzled frown and said, "Ms. Hope, what's the matter? My Mom has one of those pictures over her bed!"
